Starting from Gouda’s Market square, our bikes will take us along the picturesque, winding Vlist river, which forms the eastern boundary of the Krimpenerwaard polder.
After enjoying the gorgeous vistas for an hour or so, we arrive in Schoonhoven, the designated ‘silver capital’ of Holland. Here we will stroll around the historic centre, and you have some time for shopping or refreshments. After lunch time we cross the Lek river by ferry and visit Nieuwpoort, one of the smallest fortified towns in the Netherlands. Nieuwpoort played an important role in the Old Hollandic Waterline, a water-based defence system.
Crossing the river again, we hop on our bikes to explore the gorgeous Krimpenerwaard polders. We admire the majestic farms and mansions, the quietness and wide open landscape. At a local cheese farm you are invited to sample real Gouda cheese, and the farmer will show you how Gouda is produced in the traditional way (optional activity). After this stop we return to Gouda, where our tour ends at the Market square.
